The early years of the Wedgwood pottery works can be traced back to 1759, when Josiah Wedgwood established a pottery in Burslem near Stoke on Trent. Staying within Burslem, Josiah Wedgwood moved to a larger pottery in 1764. In 1766, he was appointed "Potter to Her Majesty" by Queen Charlotte, leading to his now famous inexpensive, but high quality creamware being renamed "Queen's Ware". A new factory was built in Etruria in 1769, and it was here that black basalt, jasper, pearlware and redware were established as additional and successful product lines.
The pottery continued to thrive and in 1940 another new and improved factory was built at nearby Barlaston. The Etruria works closed in 1950. Since then Wedgwood have acquired the likes of Adams, Coalport, Furnivals, J & G Meakin, Johnson Bros, Masons, Midwinter, Royal Tuscan and Susie Cooper. The Wedgwood Group is now one of the largest producers of fine china and earthenware in the world.
The objective of this gallery is to display photographs of the many discontinued designs from Wedgwood. The gallery will include discontinued china tableware, collectibles and giftware. We hope that this will serve as a useful point of reference for those people trying to identify their retired dinner sets, tea services and collectables.
Due to the number of discontinued lines and therefore images it has been necessary to place the images under their corresponding first letter to reduce download time. So if you do not know the first letter of your discontinued design name, we are afraid it's a case of searching through.
Should you see a flashing lightbulb like the one below, then there is a special offer on the Wedgwood crockery you are viewing. Clicking on the lightbulb will take you directly to our Special Offers page.
Development of these pages is on ongoing project so keep checking back.
